DIY Cleaners for Natural-Fiber Carpets 

To create a DIY cleaner for natural-fiber carpets you’ll need the following:

  • For Detergent Solution:
    • Mix 1 tsp. of liquid dishwashing soap into a cup of lukewarm water
  • Vinegar Solution:
    • Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar, or apple cider vinegar with a ¼ cup of tap water
  • Solvent Solution:
    • Get an oil solvent like nail polish remover
  • Ammonia Solution:
    • Mix 1 tbsp. of household ammonia with a ½ cup of lukewarm water

After creating the following solutions, you may place this natural-fiber solution onto the stains. For the solvent solution, you must pour them in a spray bottle.

Steps to Remove Food and Drink Stains from Carpets 

The following steps are for synthetic-fiber carpets and rugs:

  • Use a white cloth and dip it into the detergent solution, dab it repeatedly and press the cloth on the stain spot for a few seconds.
  • Dip a white cloth into the vinegar solution, dab repeatedly, and press the cloth on the spot for a few minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and wait for an hour for the carpets to dry.
  • Repeat the process if the stain is lightening.

Below are the steps for natural-fiber carpets and rugs:

  • Spray the stain with the detergent solution, then dry it up with a white cloth.
  • Spray the stain with the vinegar solution, then dry it up with a white cloth.
  • Spray the stain with lukewarm water, then dry it up with a white cloth.
  • Repeat the process until the stain is removed
